Introduction

Tony Knox's art practice focuses on the artist's ability to conceive a project scenario and immerse himself within it as an active participant. Through this Knox is able to enter scenarios and this facilitates the art work production.
Knox enjoys crossing the art world into other areas, such as taking a wrestling ring into an art gallery, or taking a performance piece into a wrestling rumble. Knox works with Grand Professional Wrestling, and other wrestling companies, as artist and photographer and has also trained and participated as a wrestler, to simultaneously create professional promotional material and raise the organisation’s profile nationally. Knox's ultimate achievement through his work within British wrestling is to raise the photographic and visual promotional standard of wrestling within the UK.

Knox's other work has explored themes of Iconography and in particular that of the superhero and what makes a superhero. This exploration manifested in the creation of the ‘Mothman’ character, a seven year ongoing project, where the 'Mothman' questions and explores his right and role as a superhero. The character of 'Mothman' has performed and been exhibited internationally.

Knox has worked on a number of projects globally, including performance and art related pieces in India, Finland, Tokyo, Cologne and Egypt.

Knox has worked professionally with many different mediums, ranging from digital short films through to websites and many others, and is currently based in Wolstenholme Creative Space in Liverpool.

Knox has also worked in education both as a Mentor and Lecturer, and community outreach programmes as a Workshop Leader. Knox has also worked as a curator and has curated a large number of shows over the last ten years, both nationally and internationally including curating work for the A Foundation, UCLan and The Liverpool Biennial (Independents).
