Case Studies - Northen Lights clients

Artist Tony Knox, or ‘Moth Man’ as he may be better known, is high-flying with the help of his business mentor. Tony, aged 36, is a visual artist who graduated in 2007 from UCLan with an MA Fine Art. His most recent project, Flying to the Light, showcases the legend of Moth Man. After getting involved with Northern Lights he is now looking to expand his sole-trade business to offer skilled workshops in art and photography.

Tony said: “I wanted to change the direction of my business, until now my only profits have come from selling individual photographs and paintings which could be very scattered. I approached Northern Lights with the intention of making use of the free resources and developing a clear business plan.

“The friendly and humanistic approach of the business mentors provided a support blanket which helped me to build the confidence to start thinking about enterprising my skills to increase profits with a realistic and sustainable business venture.

“The first step was to improve my website, also a lot of the mentoring has helped me to plan and recognise a good opportunity when I see one.” Now Tony uses the Northern Lights work space and facilities in the Media Factory, Preston city centre, to develop his growing business.

With big hopes for the company he is also lined up to take part in some of the upcoming marketing and enterprising activities which will allow him to move his business forward.
